Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimisation or "SEO" for short is critical for every online business today. It simply cannot be ignored. But what exactly is SEO?

The term SEO quite simply covers a series of online marketing techniques used to increase your rankings in Search Engine results pages (known as SERPS). The more highly you rank in each result the higher the click thru rate (CTR) to your site and therefore the higher traffic levels your site will receive. So how does an SEO company do it?

On page Optimisation. In order to maximise the number of searches your site appears in, keyword analysis is crucial. Simply put, the search engine optimisation company find the keywords that are used in the highest volume of searches relevant to your site, then analyse which of those keywords have the least competition.

The results return the keyword(s) which have the greatest opportunity for you to appear highly in the rankings for those search terms. Once the keywords have been identified the SEO company then optimise the site around those keywords, this involves re-writing of title tags, meta descriptions, meta-keywords as well as on page copy.


Off page Optimisation - also know as "Link Building". As part of the algorithm Google (and other search engines) use, they place an emphasis on the “importance” of a site. To establish its importance Google will analyse the number of other sites which link to your site. If a link is from a site which has a higher ranking (known as Google Page Rank) it is worth more than a link from a site with a lower ranking.

So in effect quantity of links is important, but quality of links is more important! Google then uses this ranking (in addition to other factors) to rank your site for particular search terms.
